Queer Art Projects Presents
Turkish Delight: A Bilingual Queer Night
If you have ever been to a queer night in Turkey, you know the deal!
If not, you are in for a ride.
First things first: we have non-stop Turkish pop music, from the classics of Ajda Pekkan to the latest hits of Aleyna Tilki. All your favorite songs to sing along and dance to: Tarkan, Sezen, Yıldız, Hande, Demet, Gülşen, Atiye, Sıla… you name it, we will play it.
Then there are the performances: to die for belly dancers, sexy lip-syncers, “faux-my-ass” drag queens, queer performance artists and the results of our hilarious challenge: lip-sync to the original English, while the Turkish cover is playing or vice versa… or fail miserably trying.
All the performances at “Turkish Delight: A Bilingual Queer Night” will be in the tradition of “the queer art of failure”: perfectionism, professionalism, mastery, even experience should not be expected from the performers on stage.
Think of it as an experience akin to the Eurovision Song Contest where top points are given to all neighbouring countries, even if they suck, as long as they are kitsch enough.
Be warned that booing is strictly forbidden during the performances. If you dare to break this rule your bilingual host, Scrumptious Presumptuous, will spank you with a riding crop.
